Ellesmere Quays
Ellesmere Quays is a major long term residential-led regeneration scheme with the capacity to transform the town
of Ellesmere Port by raising its profile and perception, supporting the town centre and promoting inward investment
and employment.
The development would see the creation of appropriately 7,500 homes over a period of around 30 years, delivered
alongside supporting community facilities such as a nursery, bank, post office and shops and restaurants to serve
local needs.
Landmark buildings up to 30 storeys high are proposed to take best advantage of the spectacular views of the Manchester
Ship Canal and Mersey Estuary and a waterfront promenade is to be created. The proposals will complement and assist the
National Waterways Museum by providing a quality open space orientated around a reinstated canal basin.
The current site is partly vacant and under-used, and is not suitable for a long-term role as major port infrastructure.
Port-related uses will be relocated to the new Port Wirral docks, which will provide modern user-friendly facilities and
ensure that the development proposals are accompanied by positive investment in the port economy.
Ellesmere Quays is a major opportunity in an area in need of regeneration, and will deliver a high quality new community
in a sustainable location through partnership working with local stakeholders. It therefore makes a key contribution to
the Ocean Gateway’s guiding principles.
