Trafford Quays
Trafford Quays is an undeveloped major land parcel owned by Peel of approximately 32 hectares within
Trafford Park. It is bounded by the Trafford Centre and the Regional Sports facilities and fronts the
Manchester Ship Canal. Trafford Quays formed one of the main strategic investment sites identified by
the Trafford Park Development Corporation in its development strategy and was also included within
the red line boundary of the Trafford Centre planning permission.
Peel identifies this as a major opportunity site for a residential led mixed use development. It is
envisaged that the site could accommodate up to 3,500 new homes together with an element of complementary
commercial and
ancillary retail, service and community uses. The site’s location adjacent to the
Manchester Ship Canal and the Barton Priory Conservation Area provide an opportunity to develop a new
residential and business neighbourhood set in a high quality landscaped setting with attractive open
areas and amenity spaces. This provides an opportunity to develop high value residential accommodation
which will appeal to the higher earner, professional and managerial buyers who have traditionally looked
to Trafford as one of their preferred residential locations, as well as helping to meet local housing
needs. As such the site’s development will provide positive support to the efforts being made to encourage
and attract substantial economic investment in Trafford Park and Salford Quays / Media City by providing
high quality homes in close proximity to the major employment opportunities that such investments create.
